Who are the Working Group on Women’s Health Education?

The planning committee represents Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Ob/ Gyn, Pediatrics, Epidemiology and Surgery. We are bridging our program with community resources and have expanded our working group to include key community clinical resources for women. The Working Group’s mandate has been to:

  • Compile and conduct an educational needs assessment for a post-graduate fellowship in women’s health within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa and the community of Ottawa-Carleton. (completed)
  • Develop educational objectives in knowledge, skills, and attitudes in order to create clinical experts, physician role models, and leaders in women’s health.
  • Identify and expand the multidisciplinary educational experiences and faculty required to meet the established objectives for training. This will lead to an expanded role for our Fellow in community women’s health service, and should lead to mutually beneficial program development and research outcomes.
  • Establish a mechanism for the ongoing evaluation of the trainee and the program. (completed)
  • Foster the recognition of women’s health as an area of special competence locally and nationally through the creation of a program that would fulfill Royal College and CFPC joint accreditation.. The establishment of the Fellowship would allow U of O to be involved in both National and International arenas in this new and rapidly evolving field.
  • Ensure long term funding of this Fellowship. Partnering with industry would be a mutually beneficial option which should be seriously considered.
