Biography
Dr. Chen is a Professor of the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He currently holds a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Investigator Award (2000-05). Dr. Chen received his medical degree and doctorate in epidemiology from the Shanghai Medical University. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Saskatchewan. He worked at the University of Saskatchewan for six years as an Assistant /Associate Professor in the Departments of Medicine (Centre for Agricultural Medicine) and Community Health & Epidemiology. He received a National Health Research Scholar Award from National Health Research and Development Program (NHRDP), Health Canada (1994-97, 1998-2000).
Dr. Chen's interests are in the areas of chronic disease epidemiology (cardio-respiratory disease, cancer, diabetes). He is mostly interested in the environmental, genetic and social determinants of chronic lung diseases including asthma and COPD and of lung dysfunction.
