Research Interests:

Influence of environmental factors on the ability of human pathogens to survive in drinking and recreational waters, in indoor air as well as on animate and inanimate surfaces. Development of methods for the concentration, recovery and identification of human pathogenic viruses and protozoa from surface and ground waters. Studies on the potential of drinking and recreational waters in the spread of viral and protozoal infections. Interaction of human hands with environmental surfaces and fomites in the spread of infections, particularly in institutional settings. Studies on the role of chemical disinfectants & hand-washing agents in preventing & controlling the spread of infections. Development of standard protocols to determine the virucidal, bactericidal, fungicidal myco-bactericidal and sporicidal activities of disinfectants used on medical instruments, environmental surfaces and skin. Studies of methods for the decontamination of biomedical waste.
