The Faculty of Medicine Annual Fund
All of us know that our opportunities for the future are built on the support and achievements of those who have gone before us. Your support plays a large role in ensuring that we continue our tradition of excellence. A gift to the annual fund makes a difference to the future of the Faculty.
A few key areas of support for our annual fund are highlighted below:
Student Financial Assistance: Now, more than ever, many students rely on financial assistance to help lessen their financial burden. Your contribution is vital to helping our students concentrate on their studies, without worry of financial stress.
Class Funds and Scholarships: Many individuals and companies have established permanent endowment funds to assist students with financial need. Several classes and individuals have created named funds which are endowed in perpetuity and thus will continue to assist students for years to come. As class enrolment and financial demands continue to rise, the need for these funds will continue to grow.
Financial Aid for Non-Ontario Students: While the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Funds (OSOTF) provide assistance to Ontario students in financial need, the need for financial aid for students who are not residents of Ontario is no less critical. More funds are always needed to help provide support to these students.
Dean's Discretionary Fund: While many of the funds here at the Faculty are directed towards specific initiatives or objectives, the Discretionary Fund is available to meet a variety of general Faculty needs, unexpected requirements or small projects.
Some of the initiatives that have been supported in the past include in following:
- support to the development of the online curriculum
- external undergraduate educational experiences such as attendance at scientific conferences or service in the Third World
- several Aesculapian Society events, attendance at conferences
- alumni receptions and recognition events
- student wellness affairs activities and resources
Women's Leadership Training: This fund is used to facilitate female physicians in attending professional development and training programs designed to assist in the promotion and advancement of women in academic medicine.
Learning Resources: Access to a variety of resources is crucial to providing students with new and enhanced ways of learning as advancements in medicine and technology are continually changing. Your support can make a difference by providing state-of-the-art clinical teaching equipment, software or resources for the online curriculum.
